Happy, happy Memorial Day from all of us at Surdyke Yamaha & Marina! We proudly support the United States Military Men and Women all year round and we are incredibly grateful for their sacrifices. We're thankful for the opportunity to show our support on such a momentous day!

A Brief History of Memorial Day

We thought it appropriate to include a little history of Memorial Day so that we can all gain a better understanding of the upcoming holiday. Originally known as Decoration Day, this holiday was first celebrated in 1868 as a day to decorate the graves of fallen civil war soldiers with flowers. New York was the first state to celebrate Decoration Day, and the rest of the northern states quickly followed suit. The southern states agreed to participate after World War I, at which point the name changed to Memorial Day and the observances expanded to include every American man and woman who had died fighting in any war. Since then, Memorial Day has been a major holiday in almost every household in the United States.

As our way of saying thank you to all the men and women who serve our country, we are currently running a special military discount on some of our rental services. Current and retired service men and women will receive a full 50% off boat and waverunner rentals at the Lake of the Ozarks! We recognize the that the families of these soldiers must also undergo great sacrifice as they support their husbands, wives, parents, or children. To honor them, we are also giving 25% off to all supporters of our Armed Forces.
