If you’re looking to buy a brand-new boat at the Lake of the Ozarks, we have a great selection to choose from. While a new boat might not fit under your Christmas tree, it will certainly look good in your driveway. Here are the recent BoatTEST.com reviews for a few boats we have available.

2018 Yamaha SX195

The 195 Series from Yamaha represents an all-new lineup that the company says provide the best performance and handling in a 19’ (5.79 m) runabout. That’s a bold statement and Yamaha, taking the same engine that wins awards for the WaveRunner racing team and mating it to a boat for the first time, backs it up. Add in the Articulating Keel that provides better response and zero thrust steering, and we think Yamaha may be on to something.

Using Your ATV During The Winter

Winter is just around the corner, and Surdyke Yamaha knows that it’s a good time to start preparing your ATV for the colder season. Whether you plan to store it through the winter or plan to use it on even the coldest of the days, there are a few things you should do to make sure your ATV lasts. Your ATV dealer at the Lake of the Ozarks has a few tips to make sure your ATV is prepared for winter.

Using Your ATV During the Winter

If you want to use your ATV during the colder season, there are a few things you will need to do to ensure your machine will start smoothly.

Use A Stabilizer
It is nearly unavoidable to get water in your gas tank. However, the effects of having water in your tank become extremely noticeable during colder weather. To prevent this from causing issues, use a fuel stabilizer to mitigate moisture and keep ethanol from causing long-term problems.

Check The Battery
Keep the battery alive by using a trickler on extremely cold nights. It is also important to make sure the battery connections are clean and tight.

Change The Oil
One of the best ways to make sure your machine will start smoothly in the winter is to change your oil. Having old oil may have a big impact on your ATV during the colder weather. In addition to changing the oil, it is also a good idea to change the air filter.

Warm It Up
Make sure you warm up your ATV before taking off. Once your ATV is idling, it is a good idea to use the engine to warm the transmission and differential. It is not a good idea to hop on and take off into the cold weather. Start your ATV and let it sit for a good 10 minutes at an idle to allow the heat from your engine to warm up the rest of the parts.

Winterizing Your ATV

If you plan to store your ATV this winter, it is a good idea to have it winterized. Here are a few things you should consider doing to make sure it is protected while in storage.

Make Sure It's Clean
Although it is not recommended to clean it during cold days, it is a good idea to at least wipe it down before placing it in storage where it will sit for a period of time. If there is a nice warm day, take some soap and water and rinse it down. It is also a good idea to lubricate the drive chain and anything else that takes some grease. Use either a muffler plug or stuff a rag into the exhaust pipe to prevent dust and bugs from getting inside.

Add Stabilizer To The Gas.
It’s a good idea to add stabilizer to prevent the gas from going bad while it sits for an extended period. However, if your ATV has a plastic gas tank, it may be better to drain the remaining gas. If you use stabilizer, make sure to run the engine to get the stabilized fuel throughout the system.

Air Up Your Tires
Tires tend to deflate over time, but they also deflate when the weather gets cold. It is important to remember to inflate the tires before placing in storage to prevent them from becoming completely flat over the course of the cold season. You should also make sure the ATV is not resting on cold concrete, so use blocks to lift the ATV off the ground.

Keep It Covered
Use a cover to protect your ATV from the environment. However, remember to use breathable fabric. Otherwise, moisture can't evaporate, which could create a breeding ground for mold and mildew.

Keep Your ATV Running Smoothly

At Surdyke Yamaha, we are here for you not only during the purchase of your ATV but once you take it home. Winterizing Mistakes You Don't Want To Make

Living at the Lake of the Ozarks means that winterizing your boat come winter time is an important step that should not be overlooked. Despite the myths or what you’ve heard about saving time or money with your winterizing routine, Surdyke Yamaha knows that there are no short-cuts if you want to do it properly and avoid damaging your boat. The best boat dealership at the Lake of the Ozarks knows that a boat is a big investment and we want to make sure you are properly prepared to winterize your boat.

Adding Fuel Stabilizer to “Fix” Gas Issues

Come springtime, some boaters think that any phase-separated gasoline in the tank can easily be fixed by adding a fuel stabilizer or additive. But that is not true. Once the gasoline separates, there is no fixing it. The only solution there is is to have a professional remove the contaminated fuel and water mixture and start from scratch. This is a difficult and costly task for boats with built-in fuel tanks. However, it’s critical to use a fuel stabilizer each fall to help keep the fuel fresh through the winter, keep corrosion to a minimum, and to help prevent phase separation.

Put the stabilizer in before you fully fill the gas tank before winterizing your boat. This will allow the stabilizer to fully course through the fuel system as you run the engine when filling it with anti-freeze.

Not Filling the Tank with Fuel

If your boat has a built-in gas tank, it’s a good idea to leave the tank as full as possible during the winter. Don’t fill the tank to the top though, you want to leave a little room for fuel expansion. By leaving the tank nearly full, it limits the amount of moisture that can potentially condense inside on the tank’s walls as the temperatures outside fluctuate. This will help prevent phase separation of ethanol fuel.

Note: If your boat is stored in a rack system or indoor storage, you should always check with the marina. They may require you to empty the fuel tank to reduce the risk of fire.

Not Anticipating a Winter Freeze

According to BoatUS, many boat insurance freeze damage claims come from southern, temperate states hit by an unexpected freeze or when space heaters fail due to a sudden storm power loss. Most claims do come from the colder climates, but this shows that they can come from other unsuspecting places as well. In northern climates, storm power outages are also the cause for engine block freeze related claims. However, both areas of the country have winter freeze claims due to the failure to follow proper winterizing procedures.

Using a Space Heater to “Winterize” Your Boat

You should never “winterize” your boat by leaving a space heating running onboard. Besides the sudden power outage issue, it creates an extreme fire hazard. Unless you live in the Florida Keys or Hawaii, BoatUS recommends that you winterize your engine if you will be laying up the boat for even a few weeks to lessen the chances of sudden freeze damage.

Surdyke Yamaha wants to make sure that your investment is protected this winter. If you need help winterizing your boat for the season, give the best boat dealer at the Lake of the Ozarks a call. We can help you with all of your boating needs.

Boat Warming Gifts

We’ve all heard of the popular saying “housewarming gifts”, but here at Surdyke Yamaha, we believe the same holds true for boats. For some, purchasing a boat is similar to purchasing a home. So, a boat warming gift only seems natural. Fall is after all the best time to buy a boat, so the best boat dealership at the Lake of the Ozarks has created a list of items that every new boat owner would be happy to receive. Who knows, maybe they’ll invite you out on their boat more after receiving a boat warming gift.

Personalized Gift

There is nothing more special than a new boat owner receiving a gift that is unique to the boat and to its owner. Whether it’s a monogrammed bottle opener, cap, or a throw blanket with the boat’s name on it, you can make your gift extra special by adding a simple touch of personalization. What new boat owner doesn’t want to show off their brand-new boat? Especially one with personalized gifts that match.

Edible Treats

Most of the time, the boat owner is playing host. Providing everything from the boat, to the food and drinks. A nice fruit arrangement or a basket of gourmet treats would more than likely be a much-appreciated gift. Nonperishable snacks that can be left on the boat between trips are great gifts for frequent boats who always have company. If you’re feeling really thoughtful, you can also pick up serving utensils and dishes to go along with your edible gift.

Safety Supplies

A first aid kit or any type of safety supplies may not seem like the most glamorous gift, but for a first-time boater, they can be some of the most useful gifts. Flares, flashlights, and first aid kits are all incredibly important things to have on board. You can always talk to them and see what they may be missing or what they still need. Chances are the excitement of the boat has taken over and they’ve forgotten a few important safety items. They will more than likely appreciate that you took the time and effort to get them something that will help keep them safe on the water.

Boating Gear

Boater gear is always a practical and stylish gift. Windbreakers, baseball caps, and themed t-shirts are just a few items that any boater would wear and be happy to have. This type of gift is always welcomed and is sure to be used over and over again.

Gadgets for on the Water

Who wouldn’t love a new gadget that makes boating more enjoyable? Gifting a gadget doesn’t have to be expensive either, there are great options no matter what your price range is. A waterproof action camera, sports watch, or even a case that allows their favorite things
or electronics to become waterproof, these are all great options that won’t break your bank.

Below Deck Décor

New boaters may be so excited to get out on the water in their new boat that they forget to make their boat feel inviting and like home. Even a touch of décor on the boat can make a huge impact. A colorful pillow or throw blanket can make a boat more comfortable and personal. It doesn’t have to be extravagant.

If someone you know just bought a new boat, taking them a boat warming gift is something you could consider. It’s thoughtful and shows that you are excited for them and their new purchase. We hope this list gives you some great ideas on boat warming gifts. If you’re in the market for a new boat, come visit the best boat dealership at the Lake of the OzarksSurdyke Yamaha is your one-stop shop whether you prefer to be on land or in the water.
