Fun Activities to Enjoy In the Middle of Winter

Summer at the Lake of the Ozarks is an exciting time, filled with fun activities and events. If you live at the Lake of the Ozarks through the winter, you may think there isn't anything to do, but if you look hard enough, there are some great activities! Here are a few ways you can still appease your adventurous spirit even in the winter.

Winter Fishing in Missouri

If you just couldn't bear to put your boat away for the whole season, winter fishing can help you get your baby back out on the water! In fact, many fishing experts say that fishing in the winter can be just as successful as it is in the summer. Especially if you find a warm day where they are active and feeding. Rev up that engine and enjoy a day out on the water! If you'll be traveling in, and want to bring the family, don't forget that there are plenty of activities for them to enjoy while you're out on the water, too.

Dirt Bike & ATV Rides

It may still seem a little cold to take your bike outside, but there are some surprise warm days where you can still enjoy it. There are Arenacross races that happen through the winter where you can watch some races and get your fill till Summer. Or you can layer up and get outside despite the cold. If you'll be racing in the summer, you can use this time to start memorizing the tracks so that you're prepared for your riding season.

Pull Out the Street Bike on a Warm Day

Even though it can get chilly in Missouri through February and March, there are still some beautiful days that can be forecasted. This weekend, highs look to be around 62°, and though that isn't warm, it's going to feel warm compared to some of the cold days we've had. Get that bike out and maybe clean it up, make sure everything is in working order, and maybe even take it for a spin.

Dream About Summer in the Surdyke Showroom

When all else fails, and the weather just won't cooperate with your adventurous activities, you can always come spend time in our showroom. Whether you're dreaming about a new boat or bike, we'd love to help you pick something that would be perfect for your lifestyle, and make your adventurous lifestyle, even more, fun.

What YOU Need to Know About Going to A Boat Show

It's boat show season, and Surdyke Yamaha is proud to showcase our beautiful Yamaha boats for 2016. As with any product show, you'll want to make the most out of your time while you're there. Whether you're looking for a new, beautiful boat at the Lake of the Ozarks, or accessories to go with the boat you have, here are a few ways to stay focused at your next boat show.

Find Your Show

There are many boat shows happening all around the Midwest. Major cities are popular places to find them, of course, you can always ask your boat dealer where they'll be attending. Surdyke Yamaha will be at many of the popular boat shows, and we'll be ready to answer your questions and connect you with the boat of your dreams. Here are the boat shows we'll be attending through February:

Make a Plan

When you attend a boat show, one of the best things you can do is establish a plan. If you want to purchase a new boat, you can do research ahead of time. Knowing what models you're interested in, and which features you want can help keep you focused when you're wandering down the aisles of shiny boats. Make a list of questions that you have for dealers, it's easy to forget what you had originally wanted to know when you don't write it down.

Calculate Your Budget

It's easy to be swept into the sea of fabulous boats and their beautiful features. If you don't plan a budget ahead of time, you could fall in love with a beautiful yacht that is completely out of your price range. When planning your budget, make sure that it will include all of the accessories that you want to add to your boat, and not just the cost of the boat itself.

Find the Best Dealer

Your dealer isn't just the business that you purchase your boat from, they are also who you will be working with when you have questions about your boat. When you need routine maintenance done on your boat, you can count on Surdyke Yamaha to help you out. Whether you're here in the area for vacation and you have a boat emergency, or you need work done on your boat before the boating season, we can help. When you're looking for a Lake of the Ozarks boat dealer who will help you every step of the way, you choose Surdyke Yamaha.

5 Tips for Dirt Bike Beginners

The thrill of racing may be the first thing you notice, but that's only half of the game. Racing KTM dirt bikes is an exciting combination of brain and brawn, and it can also require a lot of practice beforehand. Whether you're a beginner and just learning the ropes of motocross, or you're a seasoned expert who's brushing up on the basics, here are a few things to remember as you learn to operate your new toy.

Throttle and Clutch Control

Figuring out the throttle and the clutch is all about timing. The more you ride, the more you'll learn how far to roll it and when to let up. Of course learning how to use the throttle and clutch together can be a bit of a challenge when you're just starting out. Take it slow and test them out at different speeds and different locations around the track. The biggest mistake you can make it thinking that you have everything on your dirtbike figured out - because accidents can happen, and then can keep you off your bike longer than intended.

You'll learn the balance more as you ride, but it can be similar to riding a bicycle. Many beginners choose to sit while riding their dirt bike, but often times can't achieve the correct balance while sitting down. Get in lots of practice time, and work on being able to stand up on your dirt bike. Sometimes you will have to hand over control to the dirt bike, which you can't do when sitting.

Body Position

While balance is still key in learning where to position your body, you'll have to learn how to position yourself for various obstacles. Whether you're cornering, taking jumps, or hitting berms you'll learn to develop a feel for the correct placement of your body for every obstacle the track throws at you. If you watched motocross, sometimes the rider and the bike will be parallel to the ground on a curve - yet because of the way the hold themselves on the bike, they don't tip over.

While looking down may feel natural when you're riding your bike, it's not going to get you the best results. Many new riders struggle with this, because while they see a rut, rock, or root, they become fixated on it, resulted in actually crashing into it. As a rider, you have to be able to look down the track and prepare for what's coming next so that you can adjust your throttle and clutch accordingly.

Being able to memorize the track can be what sets a good rider apart from a great rider. The race is just as much about being able to use your brain quickly as being able to ride a 250 lb. dirt bike down the track. By learning the route and realizing that it's not all about speed, you could have a better chance at winning. Racing is a mental game, you've got to be able to take yourself out of it at the start, don't be distracted by the shinier, bigger bikes, and don't be intimated by speed.
