Originally known as Decoration Day, this holiday was first celebrated in 1868 as a day to decorate the graves of fallen civil war soldiers with flowers. New York was the first state to celebrate Decoration Day, and the rest of the northern states quickly followed suit. The southern states agreed to participate after World War I, at which point the name changed to Memorial Day and the observances expanded to include every American man and woman who had died fighting in any war. The weather's finally warming up! If you've been looking for the perfect opportunity to finally break out your favorite Surdyke Yamaha Watercraft , you need look no further than one of the Lake's favorite semi-annual event: Harbor Hop! This is a great opportunity for both vacationers and locals to come together for a great day on the water. Harbor Hop is coming up fast - the big day is this Saturday, May 3rd!  Most of the participating venues open by 9:00 or 11:00 AM . You can start and end at any time you like as long as you turn in your completed hand by 7:00 PM!   There is a suggested  $15 donation per 7-card hand, and each player can get as many hands as he or she wants. Travel to different locations around the Lake and pick up a new card at each one until you get all seven. You can begin and end your day at any event you choose!
