5 Tips for an Autumn Motorcycle Ride in the Ozarks

There's no better feeling that riding through the brisk Autumn air, while watching colorful leaves drift slowly from the trees. While you, of course, are speeding down the road, enjoying yet another adventurous ride on your motorcycle! The Fall season at the Lake of the Ozarks is absolutely beautiful, and a perfect time to get that bike out and ride. There are a few things that this season brings that you'll want to be aware of though, as you are enjoying the wind in your face.

Deer Season

This is season is well known for collisions with deer. Whether it's because they are moving to find food, or running from a hunter, it's not uncommon to find them on the road. Be sure to wear your protective gear and always scan the sides of the road as you're riding. Especially during dawn and dusk, and even more so when you're in rural areas.

Beware of Leaves - Wet or Dry

While the Fall leaves may be beautiful, these leaves can also present a unique hazard. The leaves can cover up any number of pot holes, or other problems in the surfaces. That's just when they're dry, when they're wet, leaves can prove to be even more challenging. They create a slippery surface that could be dangerous.

Frosty Surfaces

Cool Fall nights can lead to morning frost. With this thin layer of ice covering the road, you could ind yourself in a bad situation fast. Be aware of surroundings as you take your bike out early in the mornings. Also know that the frost is worse in areas that are shaded. Just be knowledgeable of your surroundings while cruising down the road on your motorcycle at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Love the Leather

This is the time of year when you can pull out the leather gear and enjoy every second in it. Summer months can be extremely hot, making it uncomfortable to be covered in leather. Autumn months in the Ozarks though can be exhilarating, chilly, and refreshing. Making for a wonderful ride where you'll be comfortable warm in your leather.

Cool Fall Nights

When riding your street bike at the Lake of the Ozarks you'll find that the weather can be very dramatic. It can start out chilly in the morning, get blazing hot in the afternoon, and then drop to cold temps again in the evening. Plan ahead by wearing and packing layers, there's nothing worse than getting caught with unexpected mechanical problems and being under dressed.
