How to Clean Your Jet Ski
How to Clean Your Jet Ski
You’ve had a fun summer on your jet ski and now it’s accumulated a
ton of grime from the lake. Over time, the algae and dirt in the water can
damage your watercraft. This means it’s time to thoroughly clean your jet ski.
New owner or not, Surdyke Yamaha is here to help you navigate
how to clean your jet ski. Cleaning your vehicles is not something you’re
taught by the manufacturer, unfortunately. However, if you have specific
questions about your jet ski, you can always contact your local PWC dealer near mid-Missouri.
Supplies You Need
Gather all the supplies you’ll need so that way you don’t end up
running to the store in the middle of cleaning. You’ll need: a bucket, a
soft-brush, sponges, wax, eco-friendly washing solution, and a microfiber or
chamois cloth. It’s super important that you’re not using strong or
concentrated cleaners because this will damage your watercraft.
Rinse
Just like a car wash, you’ll want to rinse your PWC thoroughly
with a hose. This helps loosen up some of the dirt and grime, which means less
scrubbing!
You’re going to rinse your watercraft a second time after removing
the seats and opening all storage compartments. However, be super careful to
not get water directly on electrical parts. Take out the drain plugs and
replace them once you’re done with cleaning the whole jet ski.
Scrub
Grab your marine wash and use your soft brush to work in the soap
in circular motions. Pay extra attention to the foot wells because this is what
accumulates the most grime. Remember to rinse off the soap before it dries
so you don’t leave streaks. Although you could use a car wash cleaner,
it’s always best to use marine-specific products to keep your vehicle in tip
top shape.
Clean the Seats
Cover your seats with marine wash and make sure the liquid gets
into every crack and crevice. Apply more marine wash to moldy spots that appear
darker. After it sits for five minutes, take the soft brush to gently scrub in
circular motions. Do not grind the seats with the brush because the seats will
get scratched.
Wipe Down
After rinsing off the soap with water, you need to take your
sponge or cloth to wipe away any leftover grime or debris. Get all water out of
the foot wells. Then, allow your vehicle to air or sun dry completely.
Wax
Once completely dry, you’ll finally take your wax on a microfiber
or chamois cloth and apply it all over your jet ski. The wax is important to
protect your watercraft from debris, algae, sun damage, etc. Do this before you
take it out for the first time of the season and again before you store it for
the off-season.
Now that you have a shiny and clean jet ski, you can maintain it
for years to come. Surdyke Yamaha is pleased to serve you and
your family for years to come. Happy jet skiing!
