The Best Boat Snacks for the 4th of July

Are you ready for the biggest holiday on the Lake? The 4th of July is just around the corner, and it’s time to prepare your boats and bellies! Though Independence Day is known for burgers and barbeques, it’s hard to bring your grill out on the lake with you. FOR THE COOLER


Festive Fruit Salad

Ingredients:

- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Bananas

Directions:

Slice bananas and strawberries and combine in bowl with blueberries. The Festive Fruit Salad keeps best in either an airtight plastic container. Keep in the cooler to maintain temperature.

Sprinkle Ice Cream Sandwiches

Ingredients:

- Red and blue sprinkles
- Ice cream sandwiches

Directions:

Unwrap ice cream sandwiches. Pour red and blue sprinkles on a plate. Dip edges of ice cream sandwich into the sprinkles until covered. Put in plastic bags and keep in cooler.

Red & Blue Jell-O Cups

Ingredients:

- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup cold water
- Strawberry (red) and Berry (blue) Jell-O packages
- Small, plastic cups with lids

Directions:

Add boiling water to the gelatin mix and stir until dissolved. When completely dissolved, stir in cold water. Pour mixture into small plastic cups, but only fill half way. Refrigerate until firm – recommended 4 hours. After firm, add whipped cream to the top of the cups and close with lid. Keep in cooler.


FOR THE SNACK BAG


Patriotic Trail Mix

 Ingredients:

- Choice of nuts (peanuts, almonds, walnuts, etc.)
- Popcorn
- Dried cranberries
- Dried blueberries
- Red and blue M&M’s

Directions:

Combine equal parts of ingredients in a bowl and mix. Separate portions in plastic bags. Keep out of direct sunlight.

Star-Spangled Crisp Rice Treats

Ingredients:

- Crisp rice cereal
- Butter
- Mini marshmallows
- Blue food coloring
- Red food coloring
- Star cookie cutter

Directions:

Melt 3 tbsp butter in medium pan. Add 3 cups of mini marshmallows and stir until marshmallows are completely melted. Remove from heat. Add red food coloring and mix. Add 3 cups of cereal and mix thoroughly. Allow to cool slightly. Roll small handfuls of mixture into flat circles. Repeat with blue food coloring and no food coloring. Cut flat circles out into star shapes with cookie cutter. Allow to cool completely. Keep out of direct sunlight. (Recipe loosely based on recipe from Two Sisters Crafting.)

Twizzler Bundles

Ingredients

- Cherry Twizzlers
- Festive ribbon

Directions:

Gather a handful of Twizzlers and bundle them together with the festive ribbon. Tie in a bow. Keep out of direct sunlight.
